THE RIDDERS
Book One
Susan Michelle Beezly has a pest problem. In fact, Sue B has such a pest problem that she wonders if there isn’t some sort of exterminator who specializes in little siblings and brazen bullies. By day she’s tormented by Barnaby T. Plumbol, an addle-brained oaf. By night, her nuisance takes the form of four-and-a-half-year-old Jessie Jess, oppressor to sisters and dolls alike. When a mysterious new janitor appears at her school and offers to help her with her problem, Sue B discovers that banishing her pests to the strange magical world of the Ridderlands doesn’t give her the relief she had hoped for. Instead, she’s riddled with guilt as she watches the world erase the memories of her foes. Sue B must figure out what’s truly important in order to rescue her pests from the Pterosaur-like creatures who carried them away and find it within herself to bring them home.
Book Two
A year after Sue B, Jessie Jess, and Barnaby return from the Ridderlands, Barnaby finds himself struggling with his past behaviors. Though he’s worked hard to become a better person, others are reluctant to trust him. All that changes when a new student, JR, takes an instant liking to Barnaby and the two become fast friends. Things are looking up until JR mysteriously disappears and Barnaby must seek Sue B’s help once more to save his best friend from a place he swore he’s never return, and face an unexpected foe.

But she’s not ready to say goodbye to her sister, who intends on moving all the way across the country for school. When their planned bonding night is disrupted by a Barnaby blunder, Jessie panics that Sue B is going to spend the rest of her time at home moping around and crying—leaving no room for sisterly QT.
That is, until a familiar seed and touch of magic gives Jessie the idea for an impromptu visit to the Ridderlands, where they can all sort out their problems and return reconnected. Afterall, Ritter is gone, so the place has to be safe—right?

What Readers are saying!
This was such a fascinating, mysterious, heartfelt and engaging book. I had a hard time putting it down! The speculative elements were creative and vividly written, drawing the reader into the creepy world of the Ridders. At the same time, the realistic elements were just as compelling as it followed Sue B’s struggles with bullying and finding her place in her family. This a great story of empathy, sisterhood, and finding the courage to face your problems rather than wishing them away.

I love this book with my whole heart. It has everything a young reader (or a middle grade book loving adult like me) could want: adventure, magic, revenge, and dinosaurs. Sue B is a well-rounded character whose journey is so satisfying and engaging. The world Rotert builds is fantastic. I cannot recommend this book enough.

This heartfelt, imaginative book is the perfect addition to the Ridder series! It was a joy to see Barnaby’s story continue. As expected, Rotert’s writing was vivid, entertaining, and full of heart. You’ll be just as invested in the continuing story of Barnaby – the ex-bully who still has a thing or two to learn about friendship – as you were in Sue B’s original encounter with the Ridders, if not more.
With so much to love about the characters and the author’s style, The Return of Ritter is the perfect read aloud with the family book you’ve been craving.
